In AD 575, widow Hennini is shipwrecked and taken beyond Hadrian’s Wall to marry the mercenary Cathen. When her Roman escorts are ambushed, she is abducted.
Fingal, a struggling warrior, is hired to find her, crossing paths with shipwrecked Greek monk Regulus, whose relics Hennini unknowingly carries.
Meanwhile, Hennini falls for Angle leader Aedgar and tries to escape, but is caught and forced to marry Cathen. When she refuses him, she is banished to the island of the Culdees, left to die.
In a brutal land, survival, betrayal, and fate collide in a desperate fight for freedom.
