OUR CHURCH AT WORSHIP - March 3, 2024 - Third Sunday in Lent

(0:00) PRELUDE - “Sonata in A Minor” K.310,mvt.2 – Mozart
- Althea Waites

(0:47) CALL TO WORSHIP - adapted from Psalm 19
Leader: The heavens tell of the glory of God; and the sky proclaims God’s handiwork.
People: One day speaks to another, and each night shares knowledge with the next.
Leader: There is no speech, there are no words; their voices are not heard;
People: Yet their wisdom goes out through all the world,
their message to the ends of the earth.

(1:46) HYMN #152 - “I Sing the Almighty Power of God”
I sing the almighty power of God, that made the mountains rise,
That spread the flowing seas abroad, and built the lofty skies.
I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day;
The moon shines full at God’s command, and all the stars obey.
There’s not a plant or flower below, but makes thy glories known,
And clouds arise, and tempests blow, by order from thy throne;
While all that borrows life from thee is ever in thy care;
And everywhere that we can be, thou, God, art present there.

(4:01) PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND RENEWAL
Unison: Gracious God, we come together in your house, in your presence, to seek your
wisdom and truth. Yet we do not always hear what you would say to us, or live as
you would hope. We confuse our own wishes with your intentions. We put other
things in your place. Forgive us. Help us keep our focus – to remember your grace
and care for us and for all your children. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

People: We lift them up to the Lord.
Leader: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People: It is right to give God thanks and praise.
(the pastor will offer a prayer of thanksgiving and consecration, and the people shall say)
People: Amen.

(54:24) SHARING THE BREAD AND CUP
– Michelle & John Nelson

(1:07:09) HYMN #444 - “O Young and Fearless Prophet”
O young and fearless Prophet of ancient Galilee,
Thy life is still a summons to serve humanity;
To make our thoughts and actions less prone to please the crowd,
To stand with humble courage for truth with hearts uncowed.
We marvel at the purpose that held thee to thy course
While ever on the hilltop before thee loomed the cross;
Thy steadfast face set forward where love and duty shone,
While we betray so quickly and leave thee there alone.
O young and fearless Prophet, we need thy presence here,
Amid our pride and glory to see thy face appear;
Once more to hear thy challenge above our noisy day,
Again to lead us forward along God’s holy way.

(1:09:38) BENEDICTION AND CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE
Lord, dismiss us with thy blessing; fill our hearts with joy and peace;
Let us each, thy love possessing, triumph in redeeming grace.
O refresh us, O refresh us, traveling through this wilderness.
