São Marino's film tells the story of Marino, a transmasculine person who lived in the sixth century, in Lebanon, and who, after his death, was canonized as Santa Marina, considered, by progressive sectors of the Catholic church, the protector of gender identity.
With performances by Ariel Nobre, narration by Father Júlio Lancellotti, reflections and interactions by Daniel Veiga, Gabriel Lodi, Leo Moreira Sá, Omo Afefe and Rosa Caldeira, the film promotes sensitive contemporary discussions about, for example, respect for the social name, resignifying Santa Marina as São Marino.
Directed by Leide Jacob, produced by Paula Pripas (Filmes de Abril) and with a script by Cesar Sandoval Moreira Jr, Fabiana Kelly and Leide Jacob, the SÃO MARINO project received the Short Film Production Incentive Award – PROAC 30/2020, from the Government of the State of São Paulo.
The film SÃO MARINO (20 min, 2022) premiered at the 55th Brazilian Cinema Festival, on 11/17/2022. It toured numerous exhibitions and festivals.
On 11/01/25, at 1pm (UTC-03, Brasília), it will be available to everyone.
