"The Rogue and the Lion" is R. J. Thomas' documentary about Samson as told in the Old Testament.

Using paintings, illustrations, photographs, maps, music, and multiple narrators, the film tells the story of the Israel judge who's unique God-given physical strength allowed him to defeat an attacking lion with ease, as well as kill 1,000 enemies with the jawbone of a donkey.

In Sunday School, we were taught that Samson was one of the great heroes of the Bible, but when we grew up, we discovered that this ancient Superman wasn't the best of Christian examples. He made no effort to control his passions, sought revenge against people for any reason, and lived as self-centered a life as the grandest of narcissists.

But the Lord brought Samson into the world for special reasons, and used him despite his lack of wholesome character.

In Part One, we are introduced to Samson as the Lord begins to deliver the Israelites from their long-time oppression by the Philistines.
