A church preaching about the new Spider-Man movie? In this video, we’re taking a look at what happens when pop culture starts taking center stage in the pulpit.

There’s nothing wrong with Christians watching movies, discussing entertainment, or using cultural references as illustrations. But the pulpit has a specific purpose: to preach Christ, teach Scripture faithfully, call people to repentance, and equip believers to live according to God’s Word. When sermons become centered around the latest movie, celebrity, trend, or entertainment release, we have to ask whether the church is using culture as an illustration—or allowing culture to shape the message.

The new Spider-Man movie may be entertaining, but does it belong at the center of a sermon? Are people being fed the Word of God, or are churches increasingly using whatever is popular to keep people interested?

In this episode, we’ll examine the message, the biblical application being made, and whether this kind of preaching actually helps Christians understand Scripture or simply turns Sunday service into another form of entertainment.
