In this video, we’re talking about Bishop William Murphy and his public support of Divine Nine Greek-letter organizations.

Murphy is not simply someone who occasionally associates with Greek organizations. In January 2025, he officially became a member of **Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.**, joining the Chi Gamma Gamma chapter in Georgia. Omega’s Seventh District currently lists William Murphy as an **Assistant District Chaplain**.
Murphy has also faced criticism in the past for allowing Divine Nine fraternities and sororities to participate prominently at the dReam Center Church of Atlanta.
But the real issue for Christians isn’t simply Greek letters, stepping, strolling, or belonging to an organization.
The deeper question is whether the **oaths, rituals, secrecy, symbolism, brotherhood, and lifelong allegiances associated with these organizations are compatible with Christianity.**
Can a Christian pledge lifelong allegiance to an organization while confessing that Jesus Christ deserves our ultimate allegiance?
Should Christians participate in initiation rituals without carefully examining everything they are required to affirm?
And should churches actively promote organizations whose ceremonies and commitments may contain spiritual elements that need to be evaluated against Scripture?
Jesus said, “You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve” (Matthew 4:10).
Paul reminds believers that we were “bought with a price” (1 Corinthians 6:19–20), while Colossians 3:17 tells Christians that whatever we do should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus.
That means Christians should not give any fraternity, sorority, pastor, denomination, political organization, or institution a level of loyalty that competes with allegiance to Christ.
This video is not arguing that Greek letters themselves are sinful or that every member of a Divine Nine organization is consciously practicing another religion.
The question is much more specific:
**What exactly are Christians pledging themselves to, and can those commitments withstand biblical examination?**
When pastors like William Murphy publicly embrace these organizations, the church should be allowed to ask hard theological questions rather than simply accepting Greek culture because it is popular within parts of the Black church.
We’re going to examine William Murphy, Omega Psi Phi, the Divine Nine, fraternity loyalty, initiation, oaths, religious symbolism, and whether Christians should participate in or promote these organizations inside the church.
As always, don’t simply take my word for it.
Examine the evidence.
Read Scripture.
Test everything.
And hold fast to what is good.
