Invitation to Worship and Announcements

First Scripture Reading - Matthew 21:1-11
Hymn 196 - All Glory, Laud, and Honor
Refrain: All glory, laud, and honor
to thee, Redeemer, King,
to whom the lips of children
made sweet hosannas ring!
Thou art the King of Israel,
thou David’s royal Son,
who in the Lord’s name comest,
the King and Blessed One. Refrain.
The people of the Hebrews
with palms before thee went;
our praise and prayers and anthems
before thee we present. Refrain.
To thee, before thy passion,
they sang their hymns of praise;
to thee, now high exalted,
our melody we raise. Refrain.
Thou didst accept their praises;
accept the prayers we bring,
who in all good delightest,
thou good and gracious King! Refrain.
Prayer - unison
Holy God, we give you thanks for this day. We remember how Jesus came into Jerusalem and was welcomed by crowds as Messiah and King. Let these branches we wave be signs of our excitement, welcome, and praise. Grant that we may follow Christ in the way of the cross and not turn away. As we hear the story of his love and sacrifice, give us strength to be faithful until, at last, we witness the victory of his resurrection glory. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Prayers of the People
The Lord’s Prayer - unison
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come; thy will be on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
Hymn 198 - Ride On! Ride On in Majesty!
Ride on! ride on in majesty!
Hark! All the tribes hosanna cry;
thy humble beast pursues its road
with palms and scattered garments strowed.
Ride on! ride on in majesty!
In lowly pomp ride on to die;
O Christ, thy triumphs now begin
o'er captive death and conquered sin.
Ride on! ride on in majesty!
The hosts of angels in the sky
look down with sad and wondering eyes
to see the approaching sacrifice.
Ride on! ride on in majesty!
In lowly pomp ride on to die;
Bow thy meek head to mortal pain;
then take, O God, thy power, and reign.
