GOODBYE, SPAIN! ???????? | Walking from Santiago to Portugal — Pellegrino Road #4
After more than 100 miles of traveling south from Santiago de Compostela along Spain's beautiful Atlantic coast, we finally reached the Portuguese border. But getting there was an adventure all its own!
In this episode of Pellegrino Road, join Kevin and Barb as we continue our journey through Galicia, Spain, exploring beautiful beaches, medieval bridges, historic fortresses, and some rather unusual accommodations.
Along the way, we discover the fascinating maritime history of Baiona, where the Pinta returned in 1493 with news of Columbus's first voyage. We explore the walls of the Monterreal Fortress, encounter a rather unhappy restaurant owner, meet some interesting fellow travelers, and celebrate Kevin's 65th birthday with a little help from a local Spanish woman and some chocolate croissants!
And of course, Barb is still stopping every few minutes to photograph just about everything imaginable.
Our journey takes us from Vigo through Panxón, A Ramallosa, Baiona, Mougás, and A Guarda before we finally reach the Minho River, the natural border between Spain and Portugal.
Then comes the moment we've been waiting for: crossing into Portugal aboard a tiny boat, backpacks and all!
What makes this journey special isn't simply the places we're visiting. It's the people we meet, the unexpected experiences, the history we discover, and the opportunity to share it all together.
We're also gathering photographs, video, and firsthand historical research for our Pellegrino Walk teaching and documentary series, including Noble Lies.
