Should Christians give money to the church until it HURTS financially?

Preacher George Dawson is raising serious concerns with his teaching that believers should give money until it hurts. But is this what the Bible actually teaches about generosity, sacrifice, and supporting the church?

**WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY?**

???? **2 Corinthians 9:7** — Every person should give as they have decided in their heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, because God loves a cheerful giver.

???? **2 Corinthians 8:12–13** — Giving is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what they do not have. Paul does not desire that believers be burdened while others are relieved.

???? **1 Timothy 5:8** — Christians have a responsibility to provide for their households.

???? **Acts 5:4** — Peter acknowledges that individuals retain authority over their own property and financial resources.

???? **2 Peter 2:3** — Scripture warns about religious teachers who exploit people through greed.

The Bible certainly encourages sacrificial generosity, but **sacrificial giving should never become an excuse for financial manipulation, guilt, or pressure from religious leaders.**

There is a difference between willingly making a personal sacrifice for the Lord and being pressured to give money that you need for your family's basic responsibilities.
