Pop culture is full of dystopian stories. In a time of climate change, war, and political uncertainty, dystopia feels near at hand. Even as they grapple with the consequences of the suffering and destruction, authors from Octavia Butler to Becky Chambers can help up to imagine a better world. What are the tools of storytelling that might help us imagine ourselves into a sustainable, joyful future?
Join other Unity Church congregants for informal conversation at an online coffee hour after the service. Contact Philippa Anastos at philippa@unityunitarian.org for the link to join each Sunday when the live-streamed service ends.

Unity Church resides on the homelands of the Dakota Nation. We honor with gratitude the people who have stewarded the land throughout the generations and their ongoing contributions to this region. We acknowledge the ongoing injustices that we have committed against the Dakota Nation, and we wish to interrupt this legacy, beginning with acts of healing and honest storytelling about this place.
The flowers today were donated in loving memory of Daphne Berdahl, June 14, 1964, to October 5, 2007.
The quilt hanging in the Sanctuary today is "Six Birds" and it honors the family participating in today's Celebration of New Lives. After the service it will be donated to a family seeking permanent housing in our community. The quilt was made by Evergreen Quilters, a Community Outreach Ministry Team that makes quilts and other quilted and sewn items that it sells to raise money for organizations providing food and housing for families in our community.
Sounds of Hope, today's offering recipient, aims to promote global citizenship through the arts by bringing together kids ages 10 through 20 to create a six-week series of summer performances. These concerts are a living example of the strength and wonder of diversity and a lesson in what is possible when young people from around the world live, work, and create together. This collection will provide funds for one participant to receive a full, need-based scholarship for the program.

Isaac Fried was raised in Unity Church and is thrilled to be part of the worship associates program this year. After graduating from Carleton College in 2023, he completed his teaching license at Saint Olaf and now works in Saint Paul Public Schools teaching seventh grade math. When he isn't working he enjoys reading and spending time with friends.
Unity Band is Julia Brown, vocals; Phil Carlson, guitar; Ross Johnson, guitar; Steve Lewis, percussion; Callum Schultz, bass.
Unity Singers is Unity's auditioned, chamber choral ensemble. Each singer’s involvement is built on a passion for singing and for ministry through music. This ensemble has an outstanding trajectory of representing Unitarian Universalist music locally and abroad through many commissions and premieres of music by world renowned composers, professionally produced recording projects, and collaborations with other ensembles and community organizations.
Ahmed Anzaldúa, director; Kathleen Kraulik, pianist
