The Offering Was Messy, and I'm Not Okay With It

Is this a church offering or a live AUCTION? When did collecting offerings in church start sounding like a bidding war?

In this video, we examine a troubling church offering where the preacher calls for 10 people to give $10,000 each! Instead of simply encouraging voluntary generosity, the offering begins to resemble an auction, with large financial amounts being announced and people being encouraged to respond.

But is this how Christians are supposed to give?

The Bible teaches that believers should be generous and support the work of ministry. However, Scripture never instructs pastors to pressure congregations into giving large amounts of money or make people feel spiritually inferior because they cannot afford a particular offering.

???? **2 Corinthians 9:7** — God loves a cheerful giver, and giving should never be done reluctantly or under compulsion.

???? **2 Corinthians 8:12–13** — Giving should be according to what a person has, not what they do not have.

???? **Acts 5:4** — Peter acknowledges that individuals have authority over their own financial resources.

???? **1 Peter 5:2** — Pastors must shepherd God's people willingly and without greed.

???? **2 Peter 2:3** — Scripture warns against religious leaders who exploit believers through greed.

**The church is not an auction house, and God's blessings are not for sale!**

In this discussion, we examine:

???? Preachers calling for $10,000 offerings

???? Why some church offerings sound like auctions

???? The difference between biblical generosity and financial pressure

???? How public giving appeals can create emotional manipulation

???? Whether pastors should demand specific financial amounts

???? What Scripture actually teaches about cheerful giving

There is nothing inherently wrong with a church having a fundraising goal. However, when giving becomes a public spectacle involving enormous financial requests, Christians should carefully examine whether the methods reflect biblical principles.

**QUESTION FOR THE COMMENTS:**

Why do some church offerings sound more like auctions than opportunities for worship? Should preachers publicly call for 10 people to give $10,000 each?
